How long does it take to build a website?

Most business websites take 3 to 6 weeks to build, from the first call to launch. A simple one-page site can be ready in about a week when time is short.

Building a website takes 3 to 6 weeks for most businesses, from the first call to launch. Ours usually go live in 3 to 4 weeks. A simple one-page site, such as a landing page for a campaign, can be ready in about a week when time is short.

What happens in those weeks?

A typical four-week project with us looks like this:

  • Day 1: first call. We talk about your goals, your customers and the pages you need.
  • Week 1: design. We design the key pages in Figma, an online design tool where you can comment directly on the screens.
  • Weeks 2 and 3: build. We build the site in Astro. AI agents handle background work such as checks and first drafts, and people on our team review everything.
  • Week 4: launch. We test speed, SEO and AI readiness, and then the site goes live.

Larger sites follow the same steps, with more time for design, content and testing.

How long does a simple website take?

A one-page site with one goal can be live in about a week. That works well for a campaign, an event, a product launch or a new business that needs to be online quickly.

The condition is speed on both sides: quick decisions and content that is ready, such as your logo, your text or key points, and a few good photos. Read more about the difference in landing page vs website.

What makes a website project faster?

  • Content that is ready. Text, photos and product details are the most common reason a project waits. If they exist before the design starts, the build moves quickly.
  • One decision-maker. A single person who can approve the design and the copy saves days at every stage.
  • A clear brief. When you know your goal, your main customers and the pages you need, we can plan in one call instead of three.
  • Feedback in agreed rounds. Collecting your team's comments into one round per stage keeps the schedule steady.
  • Proven building blocks. Building from tested components, rather than inventing every element, saves time without making the site look generic. We explain this in custom website vs template.

What slows a website project down?

  • Content that arrives late, or is rewritten after the design is approved
  • Many reviewers with different views and no final decision-maker
  • Integrations with booking systems, shops, CRMs or payment providers, which depend on third parties
  • Extra languages, each of which needs native writing and checking (see multilingual websites)
  • A move from an old site with many pages and URLs to redirect (see website migration and SEO)
  • A growing scope, such as new pages or features added after the plan is agreed

None of these is a problem in itself. Each one simply needs time in the plan, and it helps to name them in the first call.

Can you launch first and add pages later?

Yes, and it is often a good idea. Launch the pages that matter most, such as the home page, your main services and contact, and add a blog, case studies or extra languages afterward. A site that is live and improving starts working for your business sooner than a perfect site that is still in progress.

It can also spread the cost. Our guide to how much a website costs explains what drives the price of each phase.

How long does a redesign take?

About as long as a new site, sometimes a little longer. A redesign also needs a full list of the old pages, a redirect for every URL that changes and checks after launch. If you are not sure whether to refresh your current site or rebuild it, our five questions in website redesign can help you decide.
