Move from WordPress to Astro, keep your traffic

A WordPress to Astro migration moves your pages, posts, images and SEO settings to a fast Astro site, while every old URL keeps working at the same address or through a 301 redirect. We did this for our own website: 232 old URLs checked, none lost. Afterwards your team edits everything in a visual editor.

What you keep, what you gain

Keep your search traffic, with less upkeep

Everything Google has learned about your site stays in place. What changes is the speed and the maintenance.

  1. No lost pages

Every old URL is kept or forwarded with a 301 redirect, a permanent forward that passes your search history on to the new page.

  2. Search titles and descriptions carried over

The titles and descriptions you set in your SEO plugin move with each page, so your search results look the same on day one.

  3. Content and images moved for you

Pages, blog posts, categories, images and alt text all move to the new site. You don't retype anything.

  4. Faster pages

Astro sends finished HTML with very little JavaScript. Our sites score 95+ on Lighthouse, Google's mobile test for speed and quality.

  5. Fewer updates to worry about

An Astro site has no plugins or database to patch, so there's far less to update and less that can break.

  6. Editing stays easy

Your team edits pages and posts in Keystatic, a visual editor, without code. Writing a new post stays as simple as it was.

Moving platforms, calmly

Why teams move to Astro

A WordPress to Astro migration moves your website to a lighter platform without giving up what you've built in search. Every page, post and image comes along, every old URL keeps working, and your SEO titles and descriptions stay as they are. We know the process well, because we did it for our own website first.

Did WordPress do anything wrong?

No. WordPress has run millions of websites well for many years, ours included. It's flexible, widely known and has a plugin for almost anything. The trade-off is upkeep: the core, the theme and every plugin need regular updates, and each extra plugin adds weight to the page. For many business websites, a lighter setup now does the same job with less work.

Why move from WordPress to Astro?

Astro builds every page as finished HTML ahead of time, with very little JavaScript. That brings three practical gains:

  • Speed. According to HTTP Archive data for 2026, reported by Search Engine Journal, 67% of Astro sites pass Google's Core Web Vitals, against 49% of WordPress sites.
  • Readable for AI. Vercel's research found that the major AI crawlers it studied don't run JavaScript. Plain HTML means ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity see all of your content.
  • Less maintenance. There are no plugins or database to update, and fewer moving parts to secure.

How do you migrate without losing traffic?

By treating every old URL as something to protect. Before we move anything, we list every address on your current site, including posts, categories and images. Each one either stays exactly the same or gets a 301 redirect, a permanent forward that tells Google where the page went. We carry over each page's SEO title and meta description, then test every old URL before and after launch.

What did our own migration look like?

We moved atelierattn.com from WordPress to Astro. We checked 232 old URLs, and none were lost. In total, 119 blog posts and 56 pages moved over, and the SEO titles and descriptions matched on every page. We use the same checklist for client migrations.

Can your team still edit the website?

Yes. We set up Keystatic, a visual editor where you write posts, change text and swap photos without touching code. Your content is stored with the website itself, so there's no separate database to look after. If you'd rather not edit at all, our hosting and care plans can include content updates.

Do you still offer WordPress website design?

Our new websites are built with Astro. We no longer build new WordPress sites, but we maintain existing ones and clean up hacked sites. If WordPress works well for you today, there's no need to move right away; a redesign is a natural moment to switch. We're glad to look at your current site and advise on the options in a free 45-minute call.

Once you're on Astro, structured data and an llms.txt file make your content easier for AI assistants to understand. Read more about AI visibility and our website design service.

How a migration runs

Every URL accounted for, before launch

  1. 1

    List every URL

We crawl your current site and export its content, so every page, post, image, title and description is in one list. On our own site, that was 232 URLs.

  2. 2

    Map old to new

Each URL keeps its address or gets a 301 redirect to the closest new page. Nothing is left without a destination.

  3. 3

    Move and rebuild

We move the content and images into Astro, rebuild the design as it is or refreshed, and set up the visual editor.

  4. 4

    Check, launch, watch

Before launch we test every old URL and compare titles and descriptions page by page. After launch we watch Google Search Console for errors for 30 days.

Migration questions

What people ask before moving

Two colleagues working on laptops in a warmly lit studio
Will I lose my Google rankings if I move from WordPress to Astro?

Not if every old URL keeps working. We keep each address or set up a 301 redirect, carry over SEO titles and descriptions, and check every page before launch. When we moved our own website, we checked 232 old URLs and lost none.

How much does a WordPress to Astro migration cost?

It depends on the number of pages and posts, custom features such as forms or bookings, and whether you want a new design. You get a fixed quote after a free 45-minute call.

How long does it take to migrate WordPress to Astro?

A typical migration takes 3–6 weeks; large or multilingual sites take 6–10 weeks. The time depends mainly on how much content and how many custom features you have.

Can I still edit my website myself after moving to Astro?

Yes. We set up Keystatic, a visual editor where your team edits pages, writes blog posts and changes images without code. We use the same editor for our own website.

What happens to my blog posts, images and categories?

They all move. When we migrated atelierattn.com, 119 posts and 56 pages moved with their images, and the SEO titles and descriptions matched on every page.

What about my WordPress plugins?

Most become unnecessary, because things like SEO tags, sitemaps and image optimization are built into the Astro site from the start. For features such as forms, bookings or chat, we connect a dedicated tool or build the feature in.

Is Astro better than WordPress?

For many business websites, Astro is faster and needs less maintenance, because it publishes finished pages without plugins or a database. WordPress remains a good choice when you rely on its large plugin library or have many editors with complex workflows. We'll tell you plainly which fits your situation.

Do you still offer WordPress website design?

No. We no longer build new WordPress sites, but we maintain existing ones and clean up hacked sites. Our new websites are built with Astro, and if you'd rather stay on WordPress for now, we're happy to talk through the options in a free call.

What is Astro?

Astro is a framework for building websites. It turns your content into plain, finished HTML pages that load fast and that search engines and AI assistants can read without running scripts.
